EduChongwe School Project
EduChongwe is a project being implemented in Shankalu Village Zone 5 of Chongwe, Zambia, encompassing several adjacent villages. It serves a population of approximately 10,000 people under the leadership of Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II (Elizabeth Mulenje), who is supported by 73 headmen. The area is characterized by poverty and long-held harmful cultural and traditional attitudes, beliefs, and practices, such as early marriage and teenage pregnancy.
Access to education and clean drinking water is a fundamental right yet for many here it is a great challenge. Due to population growth and climate change, the community of the village often struggle to access clean drinking water travel & long distances to the closest schools thereby leading to the youth and girls being prone to early child marriages and juvenile delinquency.
Addressing poor educational facilities and water supply in rural areas for domestic and economic use will enable communities to access this valuable resource for personal and economic development. One such place where educational facilities and water supply will change lives is in Chongwe district.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
· To provide general primary and secondary education for children and youth.
· To improve upon the quality of water sources and hygiene in the community.
PHASE 1:
· Drilling 2 Bore holes in the area to ascertain water quality.
· Construction of 1 Nursery and Pre-grade Block.
· Construction of 4 Primary Classroom Block.
· Construction of 5 Upper grade Classroom Blocks.
· Construction of Science Lab
· Construction of Office Block
· Construction of 2 Ablution blocks with 5 Toilets
PHASE 2:
· Construction of the Youth/Adults Skills development facility.
· Completion of the 5 Fish ponds.
· Construction of the Kitchen/Tuckshop x Construction of Storeroom
· Construction of Teachers/Medical Personnel housing and Ablution Block.
· Construction of Mini Clinic.
· Construction of Playground and Sports ground.
